Wydad Thrash Azam In Mokwena’s First Game In Charge

Wydad Athletic Club thrashed Tanzanian Premier League side Azam FC 4-1 in Rulani Mokwena’s first game in charge of the club.

The NBC Premier League runners-up travelled to North Africa for pre-season and looked towards Mokwena’s outfit as a key target for CAF Champions League preparation.

They face off against Rwandan giants APR in the first preliminary round and potentially Pyramids FC for a place in the group stages this coming season.

Meanwhile, Wydad under Mokwena are embarking on a rebuilding project after missing out on CAF inter-club football completely after finishing without silverware and fifth in the Botola Pro last season.

Cheikh Sidibé netted a penalty to open the scoring in the 39th minute and new winger Mohamed Rayhi netted an equaliser just before the break.

However, the Red Castle who were playing their fixture in Mohamedia flexed their quality in the second half and plundered three goals via Mounir El Habach, Chouaib Faidi and Mohamed El Ouardi late into the second half.
