Yanga End Gallants Fairytale Run To Advance To CAFCC Final

Young Africans SC secured a 4-1 aggregate win over Marumo Gallants to book their place in the 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup final.

Having come into the game at Royal Bafokeng Stadium with a 2-0 lead from the first leg at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium last week, Raymond Mdaka’s side were up against it.

They also had the issue of boycotting training on Tuesday due to disagreements over the potential bonuses in the competition come the end of the season.

However, it proved to be a match reminiscent of the clash in Dar es Salaam, as they spurned several chances before a sucker punch virtually ended the tie on the brink of half-time.

Fiston Kalala Mayele, who’s been linked with a move to the DStv Premiership in recent months, opened the scoring to move one goal clear of Ranga Chivaviro with six goals in the race for the competition’s golden boot.

Kennedy Musonda netted his side’s second after 62 minutes to end all final hopes of Gallants to turn the game around.

Ranga Chivaviro’s late goal in the 90th minute was just consolation, and moved him back on level terms with Mayele.

Yanga qualified 4-1 on aggregate and will now face either USM Alger or ASEC Mimosas in the final next month.

It is the first-ever CAF inter-club final for the Tanzanian giants.
