Mamelodi Sundowns captain Themba Zwane has opened up about the gruelling nature of the CAF Champions League, identifying the unforgiving schedule as their toughest challenge.

The Brazilians are gearing up to face Morocco’s AS FAR Rabat in the second leg of the final this Sunday at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah, kicking off at 21:00.

Sundowns hold a slender 1-0 aggregate advantage following their first-leg victory at Loftus Versfeld Stadium last weekend.

The prestigious continental trophy has eluded the Tshwane giants for a decade. Despite consistently launching deep continental runs, they have repeatedly fallen short in the latter stages, including a heartbreaking defeat in the final last season.

According to Zwane, the relentless combination of intense travel, local commitments, and constant match readiness remains the ultimate test for the squad.

“Going into this final, we know what to expect, the only aim is to lift the trophy at the end of the tournament,” Zwane told Sundowns media department.

“What I learnt about my teammates is that we’re strong, the brotherhood is strong. We support one another.

“For the schedule that we have been facing, travelling up and down and coming back home – immediately after a day or two, we’re playing.

“It shows the mental strength that we have as a team. So, I give credit to the guys.

“We want to make the whole South Africa proud by winning this Champions League.”
