10 New Faces In Broos’ Bafana Squad

Hugo Broos has named 10 new players, including three uncapped players, in his 23-man squad for the FIFA Series friendlies this month who were not at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.

Bafana will play against Andorra and Algeria at the four-team friendly event in Algeria, with games set for the 21st (Andorra) and 26th (Algeria) of March.

Broos has opted to rest his back-up goalkeeper Veli Mothwa for these games and Kaizer Chiefs’ Bruce Bvuma is preferred.

Meanwhile in defence, Orlando Pirates’ Tapelo Xoki, who was on the standby list for AFCON gets a recall, as does former Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana who has been shining for FCSB in Romania.

In midfield, Broos has called up in-form Goodman Mosele from Chippa United, and SuperSport United’s Grant Margeman.

Another Pirates’ player set for an opportunity is the Soweto Derby Man of the Match, uncapped Patrick Maswanganyi.

Two other AFCON standby players – Stellenbosch’s Iqraam Rayners and Elias Mokwana of Sekhukhune United. Rayners has five caps previously, while Mokwana is uncapped.

AmaZulu’s breakout star Mlondi Mbanjwa will be hoping to earn his first cap, while Khanyisa Mayo of Cape Town City, will hope to add to his five caps, and get his first goal at national team level.
