Bafana Fail To Win Ahead Of AFCON

Bafana Bafana failed to win their one and only warm-up friendly ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations, drawing 0-0 with 148th-ranked Lesotho behind closed doors.

Hugo Broos’ men had only this one preparation game before traveling to Ivory Coast, where they will kick off the tournament on 16 January against Mali. They will then face Namibia five days later before concluding the group stages against Tunisia.

After their camp in Stellenbosch, Bafana had some injury worries, with Mothobi Mvala suffering a groin injury and undergoing medical tests whether he will be fit in time for the tournament.

In addition, Themba Zwane and Ronwen Williams will also be rested against Lesotho on Wednesday due to minor injuries.

The first half against Lesotho was seemingly rare on highlights, and Evidence Makgopa had Bafana’s only real chance after 30 minutes but his shot flew over the bar.

Broos rung the changes at half-time, with Ricardo Goss, Nyiko Mobbie, Terrence Mashego, Thabang Monare, Thapelo Morena and Zakhele Lepasa all entering the pitch.

While there weren’t any more highlights reported from Bafana’s official social accounts, Broos continued to make changes, with Grant Kekana, Jayden Adams and Oswin Appollis replacing Siyanda Xulu, Mihlali Mayambela and Thapelo Maseko.

With the match played behind closed doors, updates only came from Bafana’s social channels, but they didn’t indicate any real chances for either side in the second half.
