Bafana Held To A Draw By Tanzania

Bafana Bafana played to a goalless draw with Tanzania in an international friendly at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday evening.

Bafana coach Hugo Broos named three debutants in the starting line-up Deano Van Rooyen, Khulumani Ndamani, and Simphiwe Selepe, while Renaldo Leaner and Mohau Nkota came off the bench for their debuts in the youthful side.

The home side had an early chance to get a goal through Oswin Appollis but his effort was cleared at the goal mouth in the opening five minutes. Appollis could have also scored at the stroke of half-time but his shot was tame and didn’t bother the opposition’s goalkeeper.

Meanwhile the Polokwane City winger was combining well with Patrick Maswanganyi on the left as they looked to find an early opener but Maswanganyi was late to the ball in the seventh minute. Ashley Cupido also had an opportunity to break the deadlock from range in the 11th minute but missed the target with ball going slightly wide.

Cupido found Thalente Mbatha in the 30th minute, however the midfielder missed the opportunity shooting over the bar. The visitors had two chances in the half through Feisal Salum and Pascal Gaudence, one was off target the other an easy save for Ricardo Goss.

South Africa won a set-piece at the start of the second half and Appollis stepped up but missed target. It took 12 minutes for Bafana to have another shot through Moremi but the ball was deflected for a corner which Bafana didn’t capitalize on.

Bafana’s next game is against Mozambique on Tuesday at the same venue.
