Benin coach Gernot Rohr has admitted that playing their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Bafana Bafana at a neutral venue is definitely a disadvantage for his side.
The two countries meet in a top-of-the-table clash in Group C at stade Felix Houphouet- Boigny on Tuesday evening as Benin do not have a FIFA approved venue.

South Africa defeated neighbours Lesotho 2-0 on match-day 5 while Benin was held by Zimbabwe in a pulsating 2-2 draw to go second on the log with eight points, two points behind Bafana in first spot.
Rohr spoke to iDiski Times Digital editor David Kappel in edition 196 of the newspaper where the coach admitted that ideally, they should have home support especially against AFCON podium sides.
“We spent a lot of time, of course, to scout and to analyse not only our own players, but also the opposition, like everybody has to do today video and other analysis” Rohr told iDiski Times.
“But even if you do that, the fact that we have to play in Abidjan and not in Cotonou is a disadvantage for us. You don’t have the supporters in a home game, especially against South Africa, and the stadium would be full. South Africa is the bronze medal winner of the last AFCON”
