Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos is hopeful Percy Tau rediscovers his form after leaving Al Ahly for Qatar SC.
Tau, 30, left Ahly for the Gulf in January in a reported R3-million transfer as the club looked to refresh their attack with new foreign recruits.
The South Africa national team vice-captain was also eager for a lucrative move to the Qatari Stars League with the aim to regain his form for Bafana Bafana and be in peak condition for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
He’s since started three games for the club, with three assists to his name and Broos is keen to see how things develop over the coming weeks.
“I was happy that he left Al Ahly because the last time he came in [for camp]… it’s a good thing for him,” Broos said about his latest transfer.
“Okay we will see what happens with him there in Qatar, I don’t think it’s such a big difference in the level of Qatar and the Egyptian League. Okay Egypt is better okay, but the important thing is for him to play [regularly].

“It’s something he wasn’t doing for a year, either injured or on the bench, the coach didn’t [start him], so I am happy he changed teams and let’s hope he plays more now.”
Tau has been capped 46 times for Bafana, with 15 goals and six assists to his name since making his debut under former coach Shakes Mashaba in October 2015.
