Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos says defender Siyabonga Ngezana was not selected in the final squad to face Tanzania and Mozambique in international friendlies because of injury.
The former Kaizer Chiefs man was named in the preliminary squad for these matches to be played in Polokwane and Tshwane next month but didn’t make the final cut with Broos explaining that it’s because of injury and also because he knows the FCSB player’s capabilities along with those of Percy Tau, Lyle Foster and Evidence Makgopa who also didn’t make the squad.
The coach further said he is pleased the situation took care of itself and he didn’t have to call any of the experienced internationals.
“I know Ngezana is not there, Percy [Tau] is not there, Lyle Foster is not there, why because I know them,” said Broos.
“I don’t have to see him playing and when I should call those players, they should take the place of one of the youngsters. So, I shouldn’t have the opportunity to give to the youngsters playtime. So therefore, we left them home. I called them I said, look and with Percy, with Lyle, they are already in holiday from the beginning of May.
“So, they are a month in holiday and maybe they train but it’s not the same if you have to train on your own. So, I think it was a good opportunity to let them be home.
“Ngezana was injured so he couldn’t come. [Evidence] Makgopa was injured couldn’t come but it suits me a little bit.
“So, I didn’t have to select them, and I could give the opportunity to other younger players to play.”
