Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has confirmed that Mothobi Mvala will travel with the squad to Ivory Coast despite picking up a groin injury.
On Tuesday, the Belgian tactician had rung the alarm bells and stated he wasn’t sure whether the Mamelodi Sundowns defender would be part of the traveling squad due to his latest injury.
However, after medical assessments on Wednesday, Broos has now confirmed that the 29-year-old will travel to with the rest of the squad.
“He will travel with us because we have the guarantee of the medical stuff that he will be ready,” Broos told Bafana media officer after their goalless draw with Lesotho.
Bafana team doctor Dr Tshepo Molobi also confirmed that Mvala will travel with the rest of the squad to Ivory Coast but his progress will be monitored with caution.
“As it is any camp, we will always be faced with something, thus is the nature of football and when you’re dealing with athletes,” he told SAFA.
“In the case of Mothobi Mvala, all medical assessments have been made and while we continue practicing caution with all and any injuries, there is no need to rule Mvala out.
“He will travel with the team to Côte d’Ivoire and we as a medical team will continuously monitor all injuries and niggles that of Mvala, Williams, Zwane and all other players who need our care.”
Bafana have six days until they open their AFCON tournament against Mali on 16 January.
