Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos says it was “a good choice” to include Rushwin Dortley in his starting XI.
Dortley, 22, earned his first call-up to Broos’ squad after impressing the Bafana coach during the recent COSAFA Cup.
The new Kaizer Chiefs defender immediately earned his first start from the Belgian coach, who insisted they defenders were not to blame for conceding two goals in the 2-2 draw with Uganda.
“I think we can’t blame the players at the back, they did what they have to do, they did their job,” he said after the match.
“For Rushwin, it was his first game, not an easy game and he did it well.
“I think the choice we made with him was a good choice.”
Bafana will now travel to South Sudan, who lost their opening match in Group of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers 1-0 to Congo Brazzaville.
