Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has hinted that we may have found a player closer to Themba Zwane in Sinoxolo Kwayiba.
Zwane hasn’t played for the senior national team since suffering an injury in October last year while on national duty. However, the Mamelodi Sundowns captain has recovered and returned to action at the club though he played no part in the CAF Champions League final.
Before Zwane got injured, Broos had spoken about looking for options to replace ‘Mshishi. in the future but couldn’t find players with the same qualities.
The Orlando Pirates-bound Kwayiba came off the bench for against Tanzania last Friday in Polokwane and started and scored against Mozambique on Tuesday night earning the Man of the Match award with the Belgian mentor admitting that though the two players are different, the 25-year-old can be a solution to the Zwane challenges in the squad.
“You can always say, yes, maybe there you have to be a little bit better and there you have to be a little bit better,” said Broos.
“The only thing I can say I take for example today Kwayiba – Kwayiba is a totally different style of player than Themba [Zwane] even he played a little bit the same position.
“So, I have to be honest and say that till now, we didn’t find the second Themba, that type of player. But maybe we can solve it in another way and that’s something we wanted to see also in those two games; can we solve it otherwise.
“Do we have to look and for the moment, we didn’t find the second Themba, but who tells me, who can assure me that Themba will be ready in September?
“So, we have to look for other solutions, and we will see if we can solve that problem, to play in a different way.”
