Sibisi Sends Message To Broos Over Bafana Captaincy

Bafana Bafana stand-in captain Nkosinathi Sibisi has expressed gratitude to coach Hugo Broos for having faith in him and giving him the opportunity to lead the side in the international friendly against Mozambique tonight.

Sibisi is one of two new skippers for the senior national team in the June window in the absence of regular captain Ronwen Williams who is at the Club World Cup with Mamelodi Sundowns. Fawaaz Basadien wore the armband in Bafana’s goalless draw with Tanzania last Friday in Polokwane and now it’s the Orlando Pirates defender’s chance against the Mambas this evening at the same venue.

Sibisi says the moment is an important one in his career especially considering how doubtful people have been of him when he’s been called-up to the Bafana squad.

“Obviously it ranks very high,” Sibisi told the media in Polokwane on Monday.

“For me it’s a privilege and an honour to be able to lead the team and I’d like to thank the coach for showing the confidence in me. You know we’ve been together from the very first camp he came.

“And I’d like to say thanks to him because there were sometimes question marks whenever I was here but to be able to lead the team will be a huge honour and privilege for me.”
