Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos says Thapelo Maseko being left out of Mamelodi Sundowns’ Club World Cup squad doesn’t have any bearing on his place in the national team.
Maseko who got his first senior national team cap under Broos has only featured 10 times for the Betway Premiership champions this past season in all competitions with one league goal with reports suggesting he could be on his way out Chloorkop with a Cyprian club said to have shown interest in him and tabled an offer.

Broos believes there could be other factors that led to the 21-year-old attacker being omitted from the USA trip but maintained he picks players based on game time and abilities.
“You know every player has a chance to play for Bafana it depends on the fact that he is playing and that he has the qualities for it,” Broos said during the camp in Polokwane this week.
“So, what happens now in Sundowns, you know when you have 35 players you have to leave players at home. You can’t do it; you can’t go with 35 players to America. I think they are now 27 so it’s still a bunch of players because you have to work with 27 players every day it’s not so easy.
“But okay, they make their choices, and you know when you have to make choices, there are always players who you have to drop and that happened with Maseko and the other one [Terrence] Mashego.
“There are some players who are not there, but yeah, that’s a choice of the coach. And also sometimes tactically, you can’t take three players of the same style for the same position.
“So sometimes it may be difficult for you to understand why we drop a player or why we don’t take a player. But that has to do with tactics and with balance in the team and so on and so on.”
