Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos says he’s hopeful Khuliso Mudau will be be ready for a return in the last-16 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Premier Soccer League Defender of the Season was hauled off at the break with an ankle injury, and replaced by Nyiko Mobbie.
Mudau has been one of the standout players for Bafana over the last few months since becoming the first-choice right back under Broos after some sensational campaigns at club level for Mamelodi Sundowns.
“I don’t know [what’s the prognosis of Mudau] we have to wait until tomorrow [to see how long he will be out], the fact that Khuliso had to go out was not a good sign,” Broos said in the post-match press conference.
“It was his ankle, so we’ll see tomorrow and make a good analysis of his injury, and then maybe, we can maybe decide if he should be ready or not for the next game [against Morocco], let’s hope he returns.”
Bafana looks set to face the 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finalists in the next round on 30 January at Le Stade Laurent Pokou.
