Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has reiterated that he is keen to continue as head coach of his team despite being knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations by Nigeria.
The Belgian guided his side to the Last-four of the competition for the first time in 2024, but they lost to Nigeria on penalties on Wednesday night.
Broos, 71, was the oldest coach at the tournament but had already stated before the semi-final against Nigeria that he wasn’t thinking about retiring.
He again reiterated his stance after being asked whether he feels it’s time to step aside.
“First of all I never said that I should stop – I never said it,” he told journalists.
“It was only when you talk about my age and then I think it’s normal that you think about ‘yeah, maybe it’s time that I’m going to stop’.
“But I never said that I’m going to stop or that I stop.
“So again I’m very happy in my job as I said a few days ago. The guys give me a lot of satisfaction, a lot. I’m proud as a coach to be a coach of that team.
“So the rest the future will tell us.”
Bafana and Broos have one more game in Ivory Coast, facing Congo DR in the third-place playoff on Saturday, while Nigeria and Ivory Coast will contest the final on Sunday.
