Broos Reveals Brugge Report On Campbell

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos says he’s received ‘very positive’ feedback from his Club Brugge about teenager Shandre Campbell.

Campbell, 19, has emerged as one of the most promising talents from South Africa over the past 12 months and earned a move to Europe at Broos’ former club.

He settled in quickly within the Club NXT in the second tier with several impressive performances and earned a promotion to the first-team, since making his debut and named on the bench in their last-16 UEFA Champions League games against Aston Villa.

Guillian Preud’homme, who heads up the reserve team operations offered Broos a glowing report on the SuperSport United academy product when Broos last visited.

“This is someone, if I think about young players and the list we have, looking about the future of Bafana, this is someone who is on the list, I heard very positive things about Campbell in Brugge,” Broos said when asked about his progress by iDiski Times.

“In November I was in Brugge – the Head of Youth, he came to me and he was very happy and said he is close to the first-team, a few times on the bench, made his debut, so there are bringing him in [gradually].

“It shows a good team who knows how to bring in a player, they know how to give him the right information before he gets into the first-team.

“I think by the end of this season or by next season who will get chances in Brugge. With his capacities and qualities, I think we will have a very good, young talented player.”

Campbell has scored seven goals with two assists in 16 games in the Belgian Challenger Pro League this season.
