Broos – What I Expect From Msimango

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has explained what he expects from Given Msimango after he was called up to replace the injured Grant Kekana.

Msimango, 27, was in Broos’ 36-man preliminary squad but had been dropped from the final 23-man list.

However, on Monday, SAFA announced that Msimango had been called up to replace Kekana, who picked up a hamstring injury during this past weekend’s Nedbank Cup final defeat to Orlando Pirates.

The Belgian mentor explained that they picked Msimango based on quality, but also hopes he will fit in from a mentality point of view as well.

“First of all we look for quality, that’s the most important thing,” he told reporters.

“And when we analyse players it’s first on the quality. Does he have enough quality to play for Bafana Bafana?

“To play on that level, because the level of PSL and the level [of Bafana] – take AFCON, there is a big difference. So that is important.

“But as important as the quality is the mentality. You know two, three players who have a bad mentality can ruin your whole group.

“And that’s something that’s something that’s also for me important to see what the mentality is and how his behaviour is in the group – is it a guy, when he’s on the bench who puts everything in trouble or is it a guy, when you need him he’s there.

“So things we are looking at. A for a long time we achieved to make of quality with a good mentality and you see what performances it can give. We did it well in AFCON, we did a very good performance in Algeria and this is not only because of the quality, but also the mentality.”

Bafana take on the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Friday, June 7, in Uyo, before welcoming Zimbabwe to the Free State Stadium on Tuesday, June 11.
