Guinea coach Paulo Duarte has revealed that he identified some weaknesses in Bafana Bafana during their first AFCON qualifier meeting, but he is keeping them under wraps for now.
South Africa secured a 2-1 victory over Syli National at Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday in Pitso Mosimane’s first match in charge.
The two sides will meet again on 24 March 2027 in Guinea, in the penultimate game of the qualifiers.
Duarte was impressed by Bafana’s performance, praising their pace and the understanding within the team, which he said suggested they had been playing together for some time.
However, the Guinea coach admitted that he did spot areas South Africa could be vulnerable, although he refused to reveal them.
“So, I won’t really dwell on the weakness of South Africa,” said Duarte.
“But what I can say is that South Africa is very quick in terms of ball possession, in terms of passing, and they’re very strong and they’ve been playing together for a long time.
“So, it was a bit difficult for us to get around of the feel of the game, but we’re going to prepare [for the second meeting].
“There’s a camp coming up for South Africa and Guinea, we’ll play at home, so I know, but I don’t want to give away the weakness of South Africa.”
