Hugo – What I Told Young Bafana Stars Before Game

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has revealed what he told his young players ahead of their game against Tanzania saying he made sure they knew they were not under pressure to win the encounter.

Broos’ side that was without any Mamelodi Sundowns players owing to their participation at the Club World Cup managed to get a point against Tanzania in the first international friendly at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday night.

The coach was impressed with how his charges performed even though there were no goals and a winner in the game especially because they have been together not for a long time.

Broos said he told the players the match was not going to be easy though he balanced the team with some experienced players.

“That’s what I said in the beginning that it’s not so easy for them after three trainings,” said Broos.

“And then the trainings with national team are not the same like trainings with the club. With the club, you can exercise the automatism you can do much more than we can do in two, three days. But if you see the goodwill of the players on the pitch and even the first half by moments, we played good football then you have to be happy even we have only a draw after 90 minutes.

“But again, they created chances. They were good combinations, and we were good in defense. When you see the defense without Fawaaz [Basadien] all the rest was new, even the goalkeeper. You can name it new because Ricardo [Goss] is always with us but it’s always Ronwen [Williams] playing. In the midfield [Simphiwe] Selepe is new, in front [Tshepang] Moremi new, [Ashley] Cupido new. So, what can you ask more than the performance they did tonight?

“So again, it was very positive for me, and I hope again to see the same thing next Tuesday, and to win then, because this is something they have a better feeling when you win a game.”
