Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos says it’s not his job to interfere with future of promising talents Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Relebohile Mofokeng but admits speculation has affected the latter.
Mbokazi and Mofokeng has enjoyed meteoric rises from the DStv Diski Challenge squad to the Bafana set-up after starting for the Orlando Pirates team over the past two years.
And intense speculation has naturally arised over potential moves abroad, with Mofokeng, in particular, Broos noting, has been affected by all the talk around his future.
“This is not my job to interfere with this kind of things [advising players who to sign with], I’m a Bafana Bafana coach and I will talk to him [Mbokazi], certainly when we’re in AFCON, I will have the time and deal my experience with him with hope he listens,” Broos said.
“I think he will listen beause he’s a very humble guy, but when you’re in an environment that can make you crazy, a guy at 20, will be crazy also, so it’s something I will certainly do, I spoke to Mofokeng also…
“Why is Rele not at the level he was last year? It’s very clear, they made him crazy! You can’t ask a guy at the age of 20, that he can say yes I’m concentrating on football not what those guys are telling me, I’m not listening. At the end, you listen, and this is normal, you can’t blame Mofokeng for that.
“Maybe it’s in my job to go to those guys and say pay attention to this and blah blah blah – but that’s all I can do.”
