Khumalo Hails 14yo Debutant

South Africa U17 head coach Vela Khumalo has hailed 14-year-old debutant Omphemetse Sekgoto of Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sekgoto has been viewed as one of the brightest prospects in the country as a serial goal scorer at youth level.

And he was awarded his debut for the national U17 squad as they trounced Lesotho 4-0 on Friday afternoon at the UJ Soweto Campus Stadium.

“Special player, I wanted him to have the feeling, but I can tell you he’s saying I’m ahead of others here, I need to be here, I see my place here,” Khumalo said after the 4-0 win.

“So I’m happy with how he played and I’m looking forward to seeing him improving [in the future].”

Sekgoto will be aiming to feature again on Sunday when they face the same side at the same venue.
