Maphangule replaced the injured Patrick Maswanganyi in the squad to face Lesotho in Polokwane on Friday and Benin in the Ivory Coast next week in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Coach Hugo Broos said in not so many words that Maphangule and Thabo Moloisane are highly likely not going to feature in the matches but wants them to have a feel of the camp as he will call them up again in June.
The 24-year-old said he is grateful to be in the team and hopes his call-up will inspire his club teammates that they will also get the opportunity and join winger Oswin Appollis.
“Firstly, I’d like to say I’m very grateful to be here,” Maphangule told the media in Polokwane.

“And I feel like this is something I had expected, to get an opportunity to play for Bafana Bafana.
“I think this serves as inspiration to myself and teammates at Polokwane City that it is possible.
“It’s just not Popo [Oswin Appollis] who can play at this level, that step-by-step all of us will get an opportunity.”
