Bafana Bafana left-back Aubrey Modiba has revealed that he has modelled his style of play around Arsenal left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko.
The Mamelodi Sundowns man says the role, which has developed a lot under club coach Rulani Mokwena, helps with gaining numbers upfront as it is designed to open up the opposition’s defense.
Modiba spoke to iDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu in Korhogo for the latest edition of the newspaper and stated that he feels the Ukrainian has mastered the role, even at his previous club Manchester City.
“Zincheko is killing that role, even at Man City he was killing it,” the Postman told iDiski Times.
“Yeah, more, more Zinchenko because I think he does it very well at Arsenal and you can see it isolates the wingers. It always wants one vs one because the winger can’t come back because the winger is focusing on me or the midfielder.”
“So it’s always one vs one unlike two vs one because our play is with two defenders, so it helps in terms of that.
“You know when we’ve got the width and this game I was playing with Maseko, it helps him to be in that one vs one with the full-back unlike with their winger and the full-back because the winger is focusing on me. So I think it helps in terms of that.”
