Ntseki Hints At Changes For CHAN Qualifier

Bafana Bafana B side coach Molefi Ntseki looks set to make changes ahead of the second leg of the 2024 CHAN tournament qualifier against Egypt this coming weekend.

Bafana and the Pharaohs shared spoils in the 1-1 draw in the first leg in Bloemfontein this past weekend leaving chances of qualification still wide open for both sides at this stage.

Ntseki admitted that he’d like to make reinforcements for the second leg however the scheduling of the tournament and other factors make things a bit difficult.

“Yeah, we would love to [reinforce the squad] but I think let’s give confidence to the boys,” said Ntseki.

“If there are areas, we need to beef up we’ll do so but players are not available because we all know this is a tournament that is played outside the FIFA calendar. So, we are hopeful that if ever we are to reinforce in certain areas of the team those players will be made available. If they are made available, I think we will reinforce the team, if not we are happy with what we have.”

The coach added that his biggest area of concern is the attacking department.

“Offensively I think what is key is how you start your play from the back progressing into the midfield and how you get to the last line which is the attacking third,” added the former Kaizer Chiefs coach.

“If you look today, we didn’t have natural strikers because we could not get natural strikers from all the PSL teams and all the NFD teams. So, I think we had to work on certain players turning them into strikers. I think Donay Jansen did well. I know him from Kaizer Chiefs so him coming in as a striker I think the young man did well. I hope we will be able to reinforce the team more so offensively.”

The finals of the tournament will be played later this year in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
