‘Obrigado’ & Mabena Lead Strong Amajita Squad

Amajita head coach Raymond Mdaka has named a strong preliminary squad for two friendly matches against Lesotho ahead of the upcoming 2024 COSAFA U20 Championships.

The SA U20 side will report for camp on 11 August 2024 and will play two friendlies against Lesotho. Those serve as preparation for the regional COSAFA tournament, which will take place at the end of September 2024.

“It has been a hectic couple of months for me and my technical team as we have been monitoring players locally and abroad,” Mdaka told SAFA.

“We haven’t camped as a group since March 2024, but this upcoming camp will be very critical to our vision and way forward in preparing for the COSAFA championships.

“We have called up 34 players for this camp and hope that all of them will honour the call ups. We want to build a solid team around this bunch of players who we have identified.”

The former Marumo Gallants coach called up eight players from overseas, including new Club Brugge teenager Shandre Campbell, 19, as well as RC Lens sensation Ayanda Sishuba, 19.

Locally, Mfundo ‘Obrigado’ Vilakazi, 18, and Siyabonga Mabena, 17, lead a strong contingent 25 starlets based in South Africa, but it remains to be seen whether all be released by their clubs.

Asekho Tiwani, 18, who is still listed as Sekhukhune United player, has already been unveiled as latest signing by Mamelodi Sundowns, making it five Masandawana youngsters in the squad.
