Panama Coach On Bafana’s World Cup Readiness

Panama head coach Thomas Christiansen has touted Bafana Bafana to impress at the 2026 FIFA World Cup but acknowledged they have a tough group.

South Africa will open the global event against co-hosts Mexico, in a repeat of the 2010 opener at FNB Stadium – while South Korea and the Czech Republic round off the opposition in Group A.

Czechia secured their place in the group on Tuesday evening after beating Christiansen’s home nation Denmark and after facing Bafana twice in the space of five days in Durban and Cape Town – he’s expressed his praise for the quality displayed.

“We had a good game, serious game – I don’t think we gave them too many options, that was also how close and together we were in our lines,” he said about Bafana.

“But they will for sure have a good tournament, they have a good squad, good coach but also a difficult group.”

South Africa will now have one more preparation match in June before opening the tournament on 11 June in Mexico City at the Estadio Azteca.
