Petersen Reacts to Broos Bafana Admission

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has responded to Hugo Broos’ revelation that he would have included him in the latest Bafana Bafana squad if not for injury.

The 31-year-old has featured in three matches for Amakhosi after missing five due to a setback.

Unfortunately, his injury coincided with the period Broos was looking to give him a national team opportunity when Bafana played Panama in two friendlies.

In his absence, the coach turned to Sekhukhune United’s Renaldo Leaner, while Orlando Pirates’ Sipho Chaine was left out.

Petersen is now aiming to use the remaining six league matches to impress ahead of the FIFA World Cup in June.

“It’s disappointing, but for that moment. With the coach saying that, for me it’s an opportunity. I see it as an opportunity,” said Petersen.

“In order for me to be there, I have to perform well at the club level. Six games to go. That’s where my focus is.

“For me, there’s no other way you can be picked by not performing at your club.

“That’s where my focus is, that’s where I need to concentrate on and finish this last six games strong. Whatever happens, happens. God is in control.”
