Riveiro On Mofokeng Situation Ahead Of AFCON

Former Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has backed Relebohile Mofokeng to get back to his best form after an indifferent few months of form and fitness.

Mofokeng, 21, recently returned from injury but is still awaiting his first goal after 14 games across all competitions for Pirates this campaign, while having registered two assists.

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos suggested a few months ago that speculation over his club future and a potential move abroad may have affected the player but Riveiro, who handed him his professional debut at the Buccaneers before his incredible breakthrough, says it’s normal for players to have waves of form over their careers.

“Rele is a very mature guy, I’m sure he is going to find a way to find a way to the right track and still perform in the way he used to do it, having up and downs in a football career is normal for a player, you cannot be in your peak constantly,” Riveiro said.

“I think that maybe – Rele made it look easy for everyone to perform the way he did, week in week out, I’m sure he will continue enjoying playing football and playing good games, scoring goals, assisting and playing the way he used to for Pirates and Bafana.”

Mofokeng will be aiming to have a strong return to the Pirates squad with only a month remaining before the start of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
