The South African Football Association (SAFA) have dismissed reports that head coach Hugo Broos been offered a new one-year contract to continue as Bafana Bafana head coach.

On Tuesday, the public broadcaster had reported that “Broos has been offered a one-year extension to his contract” with the intention to keep him at the helm until after the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations next year.

The news did come as a surprise after Broos himself had stated his time as head coach is over, while talking to a media house in his native country.

Just a day later – similar to dismissing Broos’ quotes on his departure – SAFA released a statement, dismissing the report of a new contract offer to Broos, stating the Belgian’s contract still runs until the end of July, and no further steps have been approved by the National Executive Committee.

“SAFA has learnt with concern of reports and rumours being circulated by respected media houses alleging that Bafana Bafana Head Coach Hugo Broos has been offered or issued with a one-year contract extension,” the association stated.

“SAFA wishes to categorically state that these reports are false, unfounded and misleading.

“To set the record straight, SAFA has not issued any contract to any coach in respect of the Bafana Bafana head coach position. Coach Hugo Broos remains under contract with SAFA until the end of July 2026, in accordance with his existing agreement.

“The Association’s governance processes regarding the Bafana Bafana technical team have not yet been concluded. Therefore no decision has been taken, and no contract has been issued or approved by the National Executive Committee.”
