Orlando Pirates right-back Deano Van Rooyen feels honoured to be part of the national senior team for the international friendlies against Tanzania and Mozambique in Polokwane.
Bafana host the East African side on Friday evening at the Peter Mokaba Stadium and the Mambas four days later at the same venue.
Van Rooyen, who joined the Buccaneers this season from Stellenbosch FC, is one of the four new faces from his club in the squad called up by Hugo Broos.
He has enjoyed a good season with Pirates finishing second in the league and reaching the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League and speaking to the media in Polokwane on Monday, Van Rooyen said he believes his first senior national team call-up is testament of his hard work.
“It’s an honour and a privilege to get selected for the Bafana squad,” said Van Rooyen.
“For me personally I have been working hard, and you never know when a chance will come but for me it is the time now. Just need to be myself for the two games and give my best.
Van Rooyen also gave insight on the kind of leader his club teammate Nkosinathi Sibisi is after the latter was named Bafana captain for his camp in the absence of Ronwen Williams.
“I think he is someone that doesn’t talk a lot but his actions on the field speak for itself,” added the 28-year-old.
“I think he is that kind of a leader he shows action on the field and that is good for us.”
