Xulu Speaks On Tyson’s Chances of Returning To Bafana

Bafana Bafana vice-captain and SuperSport United defender, Siyanda Xulu believes that club teammate Tyson Hlatswayo could still be part of the national team set-up but that will come down to how well he does for his club.

Hlatswayo, a former Bafana captain, hasn’t been part of the national team since his Orlando Pirates days but he has been reviving his career with Matsatsantsa.

The 33-year-old represented Bafana 54 times, with his last being the 2-0 defeat to Sudan in the 2021 AFCON qualification which saw South Africa miss out on qualifying.

Xulu spoke to iDiski Times writer Lorenz Köhler in edition 122 of the newspaper where he said Hlatswayo is still one of the best centre-backs in the country and if he continues to do well at the club he could still return to Bafana.

“Tyson is one of the best centre-backs we’ve ever had in the country,” Xulu told iDiski Times.

“We had a conversation when I first came in that anything is possible. If he and I do well, he ends up with a call-up, because I think it’s all about how well you do at club level.

“As long as he does well for SuperSport he has a chance to regain his spot in the Bafana team. I think it’s possible.”

You can read Xulu’s full interview with Köhler in the current edition of the newspaper available on iDiski Times.
