Banyana Banyana have dropped two places globally, from 57 to 59, in the latest FIFA Women’s rankings released on Tuesday.

The rankings come on the back of South Africa cruising into the third round of Olympic Qualifiers after dominating minnows Madagascar in two-legged ties. The first clash ended in a 4-0 thrashing and the second tie 3-0 in SA’s favour.

The South African senior women’s side however remained in second place on the CAF rankings behind Nigeria’s Super Falcons who have also dropped seven places on the global list, which also means there isn’t an African side inside the top 10 in the world.

Banyana endured a disappointing outing at the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco this year where they exited at the quarter-final stage and missed out on the four automatic qualification spots for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Meanwhile, newly-crowned African champions Cameroon jumped nine places and are now third best in Africa with Morocco and Ghana completing the top five on the continent.

The biggest climbers in these latest rankings were Malawi who were finalists at the 2026 WAFCON in their debut, moving 49 places up to 104 in the world and 12th in Africa.
