Banyana Banyana head coach Dr Desiree Ellis has expressed disappointment that the team couldn’t win their international friendly against Jamaica & bemoaned decisions not going her side’s way.
Banyana lost the two friendlies in Montego Bay, going down 3-0 in the first match and then 3-2 in the second one as they continue with preparations for the defence of their WAFCON title in Morocco next year. This was their fourth loss on the trot following defeats to Denmark and England in October.

The coach noted that the team was better in the second game saying it’s a performance even the country can be proud of while emphasising that results don’t matter that much in these games.
Ellis however bemoaned the decisions by match officials saying the result could have been different if her side got some of those decisions.
“Tonight, I’m a bit disappointed but not at the performance though but disappointed in decisions that didn’t go our way that I felt,” said Ellis after the game.
“The assistant referee had her flag up, all of a sudden, she puts her flag down. Two contentious issues with penalties that should have, could have been. But other than that, I’m really proud.

“We knew we were a better team than the previous game even though we brought a very young team. We had nine new players that came in since the Denmark-England tour. Seven had started the first match and we made a couple of changes again for this one.
“We changed the formation slightly after analysing the match and I think for most of the game we were in control even when we conceded we were in control. But when decisions don’t go your way there is nothing you can do about it.
“But I think the people back home if they were up this one is for them. We are disappointed that we couldn’t give them a result in the previous game but this one is for them.
“We might have lost but we lost with pride because as I said if decisions had gone our way, we could have won the game.”
