The South African Football Association (SAFA) has released a statement following defender Bambanani Mbane’s comments on social media.
The experienced Banyana Banyana centre-back went viral after her comments on the lack of support following their shock defeat to Tanzania.
Dr Desiree Ellis’ charges went down 2-1 to the Twigga Stars in their 2026 WAFCON opener with Mbane netting the goal for SA.
The defeat has left them with a mountain to climb in order to reach the knockout stages.
Mbane’s comments went viral on socials just minutes before their clash against the Ivorians.
“Is there anyone who go to the field and intentionally lose?” she asked in her rant.
“Is that even normal that someone will intentionally lose, or do you think we are playing against ourselves, Banyana vs Banyana, f**n s**t. If you don’t want to support us, just say so.
“There’s people who will support us whether we lose or don’t. Doesn’t mean if you dont support us others won’t. You are acting like you are our God. We are also human guys.”
SAFA has commented that the matter will be handled internally.
