7 Records Sundowns Broke In 2024/25

Records are made to be broken — and Mamelodi Sundowns didn’t just break them this season; they shattered them with style, swagger, and surgical precision.

To start, history was made in bold print: eight consecutive league titles. No club has ever achieved such dominance in South African top-flight football. With Miguel Cardoso now the fourth man to steer the Brazilians to glory in this consecutive success — following in the illustrious footsteps of Pitso Mosimane, Manqoba Mngqithi, and Rulani Mokwena — Sundowns’ legacy grows ever more golden.

Their 15th PSL-era league crown is not just a milestone — it’s a monument. No team has lifted more titles, and they now sit a staggering eleven trophies clear of their nearest challengers [with three NSL titles, they are also the highest overall league title holders with 18, six more than Kaizer Chiefs.]

They set a new benchmark for most league wins in a season — not over 34 matches, but 24 wins in just 28 games. The previous records held by four clubs, stretched across a longer campaign, now look pedestrian by comparison. The old mark for 30 games was 22 wins, also by Sundowns in 2015/16.

And goals? They’ve turned scoring into an art form. With 65 strikes in 28 games, they’ve obliterated the previous record for goals in a 30-game season when they surpassed their own previous mark on the 25th match day.

It is even more impressive when you look across all competitions, with the club becoming the first in PSL history to score more than 100 goals in total!

Last but not least, Sundowns became the first ever PSL side to win all their home games in a campaign, scoring an incredible 43 goals and only conceding four.
