AmaZulu FC have parted ways with experienced striker Elmo Kambindu, iDiski Times has learnt, while Bongani Zungu’s time at the club is also set to end.
The 33-year-old endured a difficult 2025/26 campaign, struggling for regular game time and making just nine appearances across all competitions. Of those nine outings, he was named in the starting line-up only twice.
Kambindu leaves Usuthu after an 18-month spell at the club. He joined AmaZulu from Chippa United in January 2025 during the second half of the 2024/25 season, arriving with the hope of adding experience and firepower to the team’s attack. However, he found opportunities hard to come by.
Thandolwethu Ngwenya was initially preferred in the striking role before an injury sidelined him for a significant portion of the second half of the season.
Within Ngwenya’s absence, Thapelo Matlhoko stepped up impressively during his debut top-flight campaign and established himself as the club’s first-choice striker for the remainder of the season.
As a result, Kambindu remained on the fringes of the squad. During his time at AmaZulu, he featured in 21 matches across all competitions and scored four goals.
Meanwhile, the KwaZulu-Natal outfit is also expected to officially part company with Bongani Zungu, as first reported by SABC Sport. The midfielder’s contract expired at the end of the 2025/26 season and is not expected to be renewed.
Like Kambindu, Zungu struggled for consistent game time during the campaign. He made 13 appearances in all competitions, with injuries also limiting his involvement throughout the season.
