Super Sport United interim coach Andre Arendse says his side cannot afford to panic despite the precarious position they find themselves in on the Betway Premiership log.
Arendse has been tasked with seeing the season through following Gavin Hunt’s departure after the former league champions slipped into the relegation zone.
The former BafanavBafana number 1 shared spoils with Cape Town City in a goalless draw in his first match in charge at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday. The point didn’t do much for side as they remained in 15th spot with 22 points from as many matches.
Arendse is aware that games are running out, however believes it’s just a matter of time before they start winning again and climbing up.
“It’s very easy to fall into panic mode, you know, when you look at the league table,” said Arendse when asked by iDiski Times if there was a sense of urgency in the team.
“But we have to stay as far away as possible from panic. We have to keep doing the things we’re doing and the things we did tonight are the things we need to keep doing.
“I know that the games are running out, but this is what we are used to. This is what we know and I think that it’s a matter of time before we win games.
“I know there are not many games left, but it’s definitely coming. I have so much confidence in this team and if I go through them, man for man, they can compete with the best teams out there.
“There’s no doubt we have to work on the confidence factors and we’ll keep doing that through the week’s training, leading up to the next couple of games.”
