Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker admits that he was caught off guard by Sead Ramovic’s resignation, but said he understands as it can be draining for coaches who lose key players who are not replaced by quality.
TS Galaxy grabbed a point away from home against Stellies, something very rare to find in this fixture, especially when it’s played in the Western Cape. Stellies took the lead inside two minutes courtesy of Fawaaz Basadien before Galaxy equalized late in the game.
The Rockets remained rooted at the bottom of the table with two points after six games, scoring three goals, and conceded eight.
The biggest talking point of the evening though was that of Ramovic resigning immediately after the final whistle when he was interviewed by SuperSport TV.
Barker was left surprised by Ramovic’s resignation but also understood that selling players and not replacing them with the same quality could put coaches under massive pressure.
“I’m very surprised,” Barker told the media at Athlone Stadium.
“I thought they showed a lot of spirit this evening, a lot of fight, a point away from us. I think is a fair point away from home if you watch them and analyse them, they not playing badly.
“Yeah! It is difficult when you lose a lot of your quality players season in, season out it can be draining on coaches especially when they are not really replaced with equal qualities.

“Yeah, I’m surprised, I think he has done a great job at Galaxy, and I’ve got to know him quite well, I actually like him a lot we sort of respect each other so very surprised by the decision but I wish him well.”
