Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has insisted it didn’t matter that they faced former Masandawana coach Manqoba Mngqithi as the game is decided on the pitch and not on the sidelines.
Mngqithi held his former side to a frustrating draw, which saw their lead in the Betway Premiership melt from 18 to 16 points.
After the match, Cardoso was asked whether it was a more emotional affair because it was a reunion with his predecessor but the Portuguese insisted it’s the players who do the talking on the pitch.
“Football coaches don’t play against coaches,” Cardoso stated after his side’s 1-1 draw.
“I said it already when we played other matches against coaches that I know, when we played Raja, there was a Portuguese coach, when we played that said ‘ah, Portugal against Spain’.

“Teams play against teams. And the teams respect themselves, work hard in order to get the result, we should respect Arrows as much as Mamelodi Sundowns should always be respected within the limit of the rules of the game.”
Sundowns return to action on Saturday when they will face Sekhukhune United in the Nedbank Cup.
