Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso says Peter Shalulile will be back into the team very soon with the Premier Soccer League goalscoring record in sight.
Shalulile, 31, is one goal away from equalling Siyabonga Nomvethe’s 129 goals in PSL competitions, but has now been out the squad for three consecutive league games, which Cardoso noted was due to injury.
While he’s not been at his prolific best this season, with 11 goals, he’s remained an integral part of the squad, featuring 44 times across all competitions with three of them crucial strikes in the CAF Champions League en route to their first final since winning the trophy in 2016.
“There’s no issue with Peter, he had a small, small [injury] that affected him in terms of his capacity to play but I believe Peter will be very quickly back in the team or at least with us in the group, if not already in the next match,” he said.
“If not in the next one, then for sure in the following one, Peter will be 100% available, you saw him now on the pitch [after beating Chippa].
“He was dancing and jumping but also he jumped and danced in the locker room in Cairo and maybe that didn’t help him in the moment. But he had such adrenaline, maybe he didn’t feel the pain. It was a small thing, very very small, Peter is back.”
Shalulile will be aiming to break the record with Sundowns hosting Stellenbosch, and Magesi, while travelling away to Chippa United in their last three games in the league – which they are just four points away from securing.
