Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso was pleased over the return of Khuliso Mudau after he made his first appearance of the season.
Mudau made a 20 minute cameo in their 1-1 draw with Marumo Gallants on Wednesday evening, ending his self-imposed exile on the squad which started in pre-season, before returning to training at the end of last month.
This was due to contractual disputes, which is said to be close to being resolved between the two parties, leading to his reintegration into training and now the match day squad, as he replaced Thapelo Morena.
Zuko Mdunyelwa featured prominently in the start of the campaign in Madau’s absence, while Morena was also recovering from an injury, which led him to earn his debut appearance for Bafana Bafana in their 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
But should Mudau get back to full fitness in the coming weeks, he’s expected to become first choice once more for club and country, as one of the finest players in his position on the continent.
“Khuliso joined the team two weeks ago, hasn’t had a long time in training but has been training very well, we know what game time we can give Khuliso, we know what we have to do in terms of managing him,” Cardoso said.
“Obviously having him on the bench in the moment that Zuko is injured, is important, to manage Thapelo, that has been playing almost all our recent matches… and performance? Normal… the expectations is that he brings new energy on the right.
“We knew that we could bring extra energy on the flanks, which is why we brough Aubrey on, trying to create overloads, a lot of players in the box arriving in the box, to get service for a moment to score, unfortunately, we found the moments but didn’t score and the result penalises us because of that [not scoring to win].”
