Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso is ready to turn his attention to the CAF Champions League final after wrapping up the inaugural Betway Premiership title.
Cardoso has now lifted his first trophy with Sundowns since replacing Manqoba Mngqithi back in December and has overseen 20 games in the league, with 17 wins, two draws and one defeat.
This has taken Sundowns to 70 points, with a record 63 goals scored, a remarkable feat for the club with one game to spare and two games chalked off due to the expulsion of Royal AM, limiting the season to 28 games.
Having previously stated the league was his first priority, not focusing on the challenge that lies ahead against Egyptian Premier League side Pyramids.
“The Champions League, yes, I’ll start thinking about it now, it doesn’t mean we won’t prepare the next match to win, of course we will, Magesi has been doing well in their last games,” Cardoso said.
“We need to make sure we take care of this, we want to finish the league in the best way in front of our fans but myself… I will start taking [note] of the Champions League final, my people are working on it, it’s the way we prepare.
“They are also working on the FIFA Club World Cup opposition, but I do not worry about that at all [for now] but now I have time to start watching some things from Pyramids – but let’s keep an eye on ourselves, it’s the most important thing for sure.”
Sundowns take on Magesi in their final game, where the new league trophy will be unveiled at Loftus Versfeld this Sunday (17h30).
