Cele Targets Chiefs Redemption In NBC

Kaizer Chiefs new signing Thabo Cele is hoping for redemption in the Nedbank Cup after what has been a tough season for the club.

Chiefs are having a season to forget having missed out on the MTN8 after finishing in 10th position the previous season. Amakhosi had an opportunity to redeem themselves with the Carling Knockout Cup but fell in the quarterfinals to Mamelodi Sundowns.

They find themselves in eighth position in the Betway Premiership closer to the relegation than to the top. Their last hope for the trophy is the Nedbank Cup as they managed to reach the semifinal, but they will have to go through their worst nightmare Sundowns if they are to reach the final.

Cele, who joined Chiefs in January is aiming the Nedbank Cup as redemption and labelled it as the important trophy to win for the club and their families.

The 28-year-old former Fakel Voronezh midfielder further emphasized that their mental strength will be much needed to make to the next round of the tournament.

“The Nedbank I think is very important for us, for the fans, for our families and for the club,” Cele told the media.

“And we want to get into the final and eventually win the cup, but I think like you said there’s those mental barriers that we need to overcome.

“I think football and life in everything that we do plays a huge part its very crucial.”

Cele is currently nursing an injury sustained in their 2-1 defeat to Golden Arrows and it’s unknown at this stage if he will recover in time for the Ke Yona semi-final clash against Sundowns on Sunday.
