Chiefs Coach Calls For Calm After Perfect Start

Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Cedric Kaze says expectations need to be tempered after winning their opening two games with consecutive clean sheets in the league.

Chiefs sit second behind leaders Durban City with an identical record of three goals scored and none conceded from their two league games to start 2025/26 league campaign.

Having beaten Stellenbosch FC 2-0 in Cape Town last weekend, they followed it up with a 1-0 win over Polokwane City at FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening with Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef leading the team in the absence of Nasreddine Nabi.

“It’s true that we’re confident but it’s important to temper the excitement because it’s only the second game of the season; there’s still 28 games to go, and there’s still a long way to go and a lot of things to work on,” Kaze said in the post-match press conference.

“But I will say if I have to respond to your question, I will say that we look more like a team than before in everything, you can struggle, you can not play well but even in the moment, in our weakest moment, we’re there as a team to help each other. And I will say that I notice this at the beginning of the season.

“We’re happy the players on the bench are making an impact, even today they made an impact, we can’t forget this is a second game in three days, physically it was very, very tough for everyone and we’re happy to have the three points today.”

Chiefs take on Richards Bay next at the Calabash next Tuesday before hosting champions Mamelodi Sundowns at the same venue eight days later.
