Chiefs Coach Hails Two Players

Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef has applauded Samkelo Zwane and George Matlou for their display in the 1-0 win over Sekhukhune United in Durban.

The win saw Amakhosi move up to fifth position on the Betway Premiership log with 21 points in 14 outings.

The pair was handed starts, for Zwane a first since October 2024 and for Matlou his very start this season. Zwane had some chances in the game but couldn’t bury any and assisted Mfundo Vilakazi’s late winner to earn himself the Man of the Match accolade. Matlou was also handful creating several chances for his teammates and himself before the goal.

Khalil said that young players owned the game and that it’s their duty as coaches to protect them because of the pressure.

“I think, to be honest with you, our younger players, they perform very well, our best players are our younger players,” said Khalil on SuperSport TV.

“The problem, we have to protect them because there is a lot of pressure. Zwane we discuss with him a lot of time in the training, sometimes we are angry like he is our son, and sometimes we are angry against him. This game he got his chance and he did well.

“I think he was one of the best player in this game him and George Matlou. Also Matlou you know he was one year without a game. He come back step by step we have to protect our players.

“Congratulations for them, congratulations for all the players, the professionals and the young ones congratulations for them.”
