Chiefs Coach On Shock Defeat – We Have To Say Sorry

Kaizer Chiefs coach Khalil Ben Youssef says they need to take responsibility and apologise to their supporters after suffering their second league defeat of the season.

Chiefs suffered a surprise loss to Stellenbosch at FNB Stadium after a dominant first half where they had a 1-0 lead but could have been clear based on the clear-cut chances created.

But Flavio Silva’s goal was overturned by Langelihle Phili and a late stunner from Devin Titus – to hit a firm blow to Chiefs’ slim title hopes this season, as Sundowns move top of the table with a 1-0 win over AmaZulu at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

“We dominated the first half and we didn’t kill the game, we started like that in the second half and conceded in the first five minutes, I think we have to take our responsibility sometimes and we have to see our mistakes and make the right analysis,” he said via SuperSport TV.

“We have to take responsibility about this loss – we have to say sorry to the fans and I think we now have three days to prepare for the next game, not much time to discuss about this game – but yeah same mistakes.

“We score the first goal of the game, you have to kill it, you have to finish the six or seven opportunities from the first half, we missed all of them, even an empty goal you miss a chance – what can we do?”

Masandawana are now joint level on 38 points with Pirates, with Chiefs facing the Buccaneers in the Soweto Derby at the Calabash on Saturday afternoon.

“We have to take care of the players, their mentality, keep them up, and that’s football, there’s a win or lose, we have to work now, when you win you don’t have to have to much joy, when you lose you don’t have to be too sad, just continue to work hard,” he continued.

“In a few days, it’s the derby – we have to start thinking of that now and continue to work towards this.”
