Kaizer Chiefs lifted the Cufa Cup at Bloemfontein Stadium on Sunday after beating Marumo Gallants on penalties.
Both teams couldn’t be separated in 90 minutes, as the match, which was close to be cancelled over issues between the organisers and Gallants, ended in a goalless draw.
Wandile Duba had the first real chance of the game after being played in but his shot from the edge of the box was saved by Kagiso Mlambo, who was handed a start by Dan Malesela.
Ten minutes later Bruce Bvuma was called into action but denied Siyabulela Shai’s powerful shot from close range.
Chiefs were forced into an early sub after Christian Saile seemed to have picked up a hamstring injury and was replaced by Mfundo Vilakazi after 32 minutes.
Ranga Chivaviro had the last chance before the break but his shot was saved by Mlambo, who was the busier of the two goalkeepers in the first half.
It was Chivaviro again who had a powerful shot saved by Mlambo in the 60th minute, as Chiefs continued knocking for an opener.
Monde Mpambaniso almost opened the scoring for Gallants after 65 minutes but his shot from inside the box flew over the bar.
The second half was disrupted by changes, as both coaches were allowed to make 10 substitutions in the game.
The match ended goalless and needed to be decided on penalties, where Amakhosi were perfect while Gallants missed two spot-kicks. Yusuf Maart, Reeve Frosler, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Inacio Miguel scored for Chiefs, as Nabi’s side lifted the Cufa Cup.
