Chiefs Provide Update On Du Preez

Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson has suggested Ashley du Preez may return before the end of the year.

The 26-year-old forward started the season well with three goals and two assists in his first 11 games but has since missed the last two months with injury.

He was pictured with the first team in Polokwane this weekend but Johnson said he travelled to fulfil other club duties off the field.

“I pray guys, I pray [Ashley returns] before the end of the year, he’s almost there, I know some of you guys saw him with us [in Polokwane] but he was doing social responsibility for the team,” Johnson explained.

“It’s not that we brought him with to show he’s ready, no he’s about two weeks off.”

The experienced coach went on to discuss their two wins in a row with Swallows the 1-0 victories over Moroka Swallows and Polokwane City – which he feels is still not at the level they should be on.

“In some moments yes, we’re getting there, but if it was the same win as we did against Swallows then we can say we’re building on the style of play,” Johnson said.

“But we had to play against a team like [Polokwane] it’s a whole new perspective, we have to also go back home and say, how do we play against a team who plays like this – there are one or two teams who or similar on the long ball and second ball.

“We need to learn how to [play against that] and also make sure we’re able to keep on stitching the Kaizer Chiefs cloth. I think we’re doing a good job, when it’s 15 wins [on the trot] then we talk [about doing well].”
