Chiefs Shocked In Polokwane

Kaizer Chiefs succumbed to a shock 2-0 defeat the hands of Polokwane City in the Betway Premiership at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

After both sides went on the attack testing each other earlier on in the match, it was the hosts who broke the deadlock through Oswin Appollis in the 17th minute who tapped in on the far post to make it 1-0 to City.

In the 20th minute, Yusuf Maart tried his luck from range, but his effort sailed way off target.

On the stroke of half-time, Rise and Shine should’ve doubled their lead after Mokibelo Ramabu was played in on the far side by Appollis. The former however blasted his effort into the stands as City took the slender lead into the break.

Mfundo Vilakazi then attempted an effort from outside the box in the 50th minute but it was too tame for Manuel Sapunga.

Three minutes later, Mduduzi Shabalala then tried from range with a twist and turn but skied his shot.

Obridago was up next in the 54th minute but failed to keep his shot on target.

After dancing his way past the Polokwane defence, Shabalala was let down by his final touch as Sapunga rushed to make a save in the 60th minute.

Maart’s chip in the 63rd minute was tipped over the bar by Sapunga.

Chiefs’ best chance came in the 83rd minute when Tebogo Potsane unleashed a rocket that crashed against the post with Sapunga rooted still.

Du Preez’s attempted bicycle kick a minute later completely missed the target.

Ramabu then rounded off the scoring in the 89th minute after Brandon Petersen parried his save into his path as Phuti Mohafe collected maximum points to move third on the log standings.
